HC3 Cloud Unity for Hosted Disaster Recovery

Partnering with Google and the Google Cloud Platform, Scale Computing offers HC3 Cloud Unity and HC3 Cloud Unity DR, a Disaster Recovery service. HC3 Cloud Unity and HC3 Cloud Unity DR combine the private cloud capabilities of Scale Computing’s HC3 appliance-based infrastructure platform with Google’s Cloud Platform to create an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution that supports applications and virtual machines that run on HC3.

Nested virtualization in Google Cloud Platform allows Scale Computing to run HC3 virtual appliances. VMs can be replicated securely and protected for failover and disaster recovery. HC3 Cloud Unity is an ideal option for smaller organizations without a second site for disaster recovery, or for organizations that prefer the flexibility and availability of the cloud.

An HC3 Cloud Unity Gateway mico-VM, which can be run on any x86 capable hypervisor with internet access, creates an L2 networking connection between users and the cloud-based HC3 instance. This allows users to seamlessly and securely reconnect with VMs as they are failed over from the on-prem HC3 system to the cloud, with no need for a VPN. All traffic between the on-premises environment and the cloud utilizes an encrypted connection, authenticated via pre-shared key. HC3 Cloud Unity becomes a component in your infrastructure, addressable locally, which your applications can interoperate with in the exact same way they would with any local system.

The networking nightmare typically present in DR is gone, and an application which fails over to the cloud resource will retain the same IP address that it had before. All the other systems, users, and applications will continue to communicate with the “failed” resource as though it never moved; cloud resources are on the local LAN. Any VM can access them, use them, and move in or out of the cloud without reconfiguration or cloud awareness.

Taking simplicity a step further, HC3 Cloud Unity DR provides a full disaster recovery service. ScaleCare Support & Services Engineers will assist in creating a disaster recovery plan and detailed runbook to use when disaster strikes. ScaleCare Support & Services Engineers will handle all aspects of disaster recovery, including bringing workloads online. Because HC3 runs as a virtual appliance on Google Cloud Platform, you connect and manage it and all of your VMs just as you would your on-prem infrastructure; there are no additional management interfaces to learn or operate.
