With this week’s announcement of Wasabi Surveillance Cloud, the edge to cloud use case for video surveillance with the Intel® NUC Enterprise Edge Compute Built With Scale Computing expands to a new level.
Scale Computing and Wasabi have been working together to combine industry-leading on-premises edge computing with easy-to-use cloud data retention and archival to create the agile hybrid cloud environment your organization needs. With the added support of multiple video management software (VMS) vendors inside of Wasabi Surveillance Cloud, we’re now able to expand to organizations' needs for critical video surveillance at the edge.
Server and Storage Infrastructure for Critical Video Surveillance that is Easy
By combining server, storage, and network resources from multiple appliances into a single easy-to-manage system and offloading large amounts of video surveillance data to the cloud, Scale Computing and Wasabi provide resilient and scalable infrastructure that is both affordable and easy for anyone to manage, with or without IT expertise.
In the surveillance world, video storage needs are growing rapidly due to the proliferation of cameras, increased retention requirements, and higher resolution recordings. This is why medium to large organizations in particular need to be aware of the storage burden they are taking on and how best to manage it. If the cost of storage exceeds the value realized by storing the video, it gets thrown away. Faced with expanding storage needs, leveraging on-site, centralized storage alone is simply inefficient. It’s becoming complex, inefficient, and expensive.
The other issue of this mass data collection is that much of it is archivable. If video files haven’t been accessed in the last 90 days, it cools very rapidly and the probability of it being accessed drops dramatically. In most cases, 75 to 90 percent of video files are “cold” and consume primary storage capacity on-site. With Wasabi Surveillance Cloud, 80% or more of an organization’s video files, on average, can be off-loaded from on-site storage to lower-cost Wasabi cloud storage, freeing up capacity for additional videos.
How it works
Wasabi Surveillance Cloud installs on a Microsoft Windows® server in five minutes without rebooting and immediately optimizes your storage and protects your video. There is no client software needed on end-user devices. Video files moved to the cloud are replaced with zero-byte stub files in the NTFS file system. These stub files are placeholders that allow applications to function normally, as if the video exists in its original location.
Video migration from SC//Platform to the cloud is performed seamlessly and automatically based on the storage policy you define. During the process, video always remains available while capacity is freed on the primary and secondary recording servers. Users and applications still access the off-loaded video in the same manner as when it was onsite; via the same source, same directory, and in the same way—even in the cloud. All video stored in the Wasabi cloud is considered “hot” and is readily available.
Integrated IT Deployment for Smaller Surveillance Systems
With verification of up to 100 cameras on the HE100 series with Milestone Xprotect and other VMS vendors, Scale Computing and Wasabi deliver an edge to cloud surveillance solution that is easy to use, minimizes disruption, and allows access to video as usual.
For simpler deployments with a moderate number of cameras (tens to a couple of hundred), running a VMS workload in one or more VMs alongside other IT infrastructure applications like AD, DNS, File and Print, etc. can greatly reduce the number of infrastructure systems to manage.
Provides all the traditional cost and management benefits derived from consolidating IT systems using SC//HyperCore virtualization such as automatic high availability for applications and data, easy remote management and hardware self-healing.
Deploy VMS software right alongside other IT infrastructure and line of business applications on the SC//HyperCore cluster.
